DIY: Educational Clay Pot Toy For A Toddler/Preschooler #GlueNGlitter #CBias

Now that warm weather has arrived Little Bit and I have moved to the great outdoors. It is fun to explore all the things outside and it certainly provides lots of learning opportunities. Little Bit has a play yard that I want to turn into a mini one person preschool. To accomplish that I have been thinking of elements to add to the yard to help him learn shapes, colors, music, art, etc.

Today I made him a clay pot musical toy. Here is the finished product:

This toy is terrific because it has so many different uses. You can make music with it by tapping the pots. You can even try different things to tap the pot with to see the different sounds they will produce. I used a pack of Elmer's Painters to draw a shape on each of the pots. I used one color per pot and one shape. In the picture above Little Bit was pointing to the oval shape and calling it an egg. Hey, it's a start!  Now I can use this toy to teach music, colors, shapes, and counting. Want to make one for your Little Bit? Here's how!

First, you need some materials. I highly recommend Elmer's Painters for decorating your pots. These are the easiest product I have found for drawing and coloring on clay pots.

I also picked up some wooden sticks, clay pots, spray paint, binder rings, and clothes line string. If you would like to take a look at my shopping trip and my crafting disaster take a look at my

Once you have your materials you will need to decorate your clay pots with your Elmer's Painters.

Then, you put the large binder ring on the clothes line string. Feed the string through the hole in the bottom of the pot. Then attach the small binder ring to the string. Tie off the string so it forms a loop. Feed the knot through the hole of the pot so you wont be able to see it.

Lastly, string the pots onto a rod. I spray painted my rod red because this will be a permanent addition to the play yard. I put the rod in the corner of the fence. Easy peasy!

Such a simple craft that has so many educational uses! Happy learning.
