As all of you know I have been in a year long process of emptying out our office in preparation for our adopted baby. What a monumental task it has been and still is! Pre-Little Bit we both had our own offices. Then when he hit the scene we started sharing an office. Now we have no office. All of those treasured things that I have squirreled away now need to leave or find a new home somewhere in the house. I have done a fair job of letting go of tons of stuff but there are some things that I cling to. One of those things is cards. I have tons of them. I adore cards. It means so much to me when someone gets me one that I never want to let it go.
One of my new favorite haunts is Pinterest. There are so many amazing ideas on the internet and Pinterest let's me organize them into boards as a visual reminder of projects and products I want to try out. Something I had never seen before my Pinterest addiction was a smash book. Basically what you do is take a little journal or composition book and add mementos to it.
I loved this idea and thought it would be a terrific way to consolidate my cards into visually appealing way. I broke out my scissors, Elmer's School Glue, and stole a composition book from Hubs. Here is the end result.
It was so much fun to do! I loved looking at my old cards and then designing a layout for them on the page. I think the next page I try will have some journaling on it. Have you ever heard of a smash book? Do you have a Pinterest addiction? What is the coolest thing you have ever found on Pinterest?
Great Idea!! Not only is storing all that paper and cards messy, it is a fire hazzard.
ReplyDeleteMy girls and I are about to make an altered book. It's going to be for my dad's birthday. I think stuff like this is great! Very smart way to keep those memories!

We're getting ready to put our home on the market and I've been de-cluttering too! In a way it's refreshing to get rid of stuff, but also difficult decisions make it almost heartbreaking!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea! I still have cards from 30 years ago! I should do this for the kids as well as myself.

I also have a ton of cards that people have given me over the years (some back to when I was born and 2-3 years old that my parents kept). I started scanning them into the computer so I could let go of them, but then our scanner went wonky.
ReplyDeleteI think not only will you enjoy having the smash book, but you can show it to your little ones and share those memories with them :).
I love pinterest! Your card idea is great!
ReplyDeleteI would love a follow back,
Happy week-end!

I love this idea...a smash book. One thing that has helped me is to take pictures of things I cannot give up. I get the same feeling of nostalgia seeing a picture as holding the object. Now I can put those pictures in a smash book!
ReplyDeleteI really like the idea of a smash book!
ReplyDeleteI have heard of and checked out pinterest!
I am trying to stay far away from pinterest as I can and will become addicted.
I remember smash books from back when I was in middle school! You would pass it around with your friends and everyone would fill out a page.
ReplyDeleteBest of luck to you and your family in bringing your new baby home!

ReplyDeleteGreat, great idea! I'm so like you. I am so sentimental with the cards I receive especially those from hubby and I just keep on holding on to them since forever. And this is so great. I do hope I could find time to do the same.
ReplyDeletethanks for dropping by my site asking if I am ok. The past weeks has been totally crazy week... most of the time crazy-fun week so I can't complain. Oh! I remember that having a craft room & his computer room. Then combined craft/computer room and then No room! Luckily, we'll both have our rooms back in a couple years. It is hard getting it all down to bare bones. What a great idea for the smash book! How did your meeting go last week?
ReplyDeleteHow neat! I had not heard of a smash book before. I really like that. I know that I would probably love Pinterest too, and I'm on there, but just no time to have fun with my new business taking all of my time. I'm jealous of all of you Pinteresters!
ReplyDeleteOMG!!! What a great idea! I am totally doing that with all my kids' cards from over the years.
ReplyDeleteStopping by from vB!
