Mostly I am a seasoning packet kind of gal but today I was really jonesing for some sloppy joes and no seasoning packet to make them. I pulled out good old Betty Crocker. She is a faithful friend who rarely disappoints. I augmented the recipe a bit from the original and here is what I came up with.
1lb. of ground beef
1-2 tablespoons of dried onions
1 teaspoon of celery seed
1 cup of ketchup
1 tablespoon of steak sauce
1 teaspoon of ground mustard
pepper to taste
Cook your burger, onions, and celery seed until the burger is browned. Drain your grease. Add the rest of the ingredients and simmer for 15 minutes. Easy peezy and really yummy.

ReplyDeleteHey this recipe looks good. I make my own non-meat but the rest would be really great to add to give it a great flavor.
ReplyDeleteHuh, who knew you could actually make this stuff from scratch? I just assumed it had to come in the can. I admit though, I am just a wee bit on the cooking challenged side. Thanks for the recipe! I'm a new follower from the FMBT hop!

Here from the Alexa Hop. Your recipe seems easy enough...I just happen to detest sloppy joes for the mere fact I am not a fan of ketchup, barbeque sauce, or tomato soup. I could do without spaghetti sauce too, but do find it more tolerable.
ReplyDeleteGreat recipe- my kids like it with worcestershire sauce added as well. I'm stopping by from the Alexa hop. Hope you'll visit my blog.

You know, I haven't eaten sloppy joes since I was eight. I despised them growing up, and haven't bothered trying them again. However, public school lunch has taught Miss *a* she loves them, and she's been begging to me try again. Now that I have a recipe I have no excuse. Thanks a lot. :P
ReplyDeleteAlso, starting Sunday, I'm doing a recipe contest/linky. You should come check it out and link up!

First--LOVE that recipe...my mom made that all the time when we were growing up and I have the recipe in my favorites file box. I don't think I knew it was from Betty Crocker..another classic and easy book!! Im gonna pull out my old copy and look through it again--so much easier than getting out the laptop and searching.
