Tweet It is full on apple season here in Virginia. I live smack dab in the middle of apple country so I can get apples on the cheap. There just happens to be a whole crate of apples hanging out in my fridge at the moment. One recipe that I had to pull out was my Mom's Applesauce Cake. She may murder me if she finds out I shared it online but she doesn't own a computer so I feel fairly safe.
1.5 cups of applesauce. I make my own applesauce out of my yummy fresh apples. I think this really makes the cake
.5 cup shortening
2 cups of sugar. I used .5 cup of brown sugar and 1.5 of white sugar.
2.5 cups of white all purpose flour
.25 teaspoon of salt
1 tablespoon of cinnamon
.5 teaspoon of clove
.5 teaspoon of allspice
1 cup of black walnuts
1 cup of raisins
.5 cup of boiling water
Mix it all together and our into a greased flour mold. Bake for one hour at 350 degrees. Helpful hint, let the cake cool all the way before you take it out. I forgot that bit and that's why you don't have any pictures of my delicious but hideous applesauce cake.
