Clay Pot Upcycle: #GlueNGlitter

Every year around this time I like to re-pot my house plants. I have been gathering pots from thrift stores and yard sales all summer in an attempt to be more green. I am in love with milk glass so that has been the focus of my bargain hunts this year. The milk glass is lovely. That being said there is a pot in the midst of all this prettiness that really sticks out. I have a cactus that plain ole refuses to leave it's pot. I am pretty sure the only way it will come out is to break the pot. If I do that I may end up breaking the cactus so in the pot it stays.

Something had to be done about the pot though. Why not an upcycle? I headed to Walmart and garnered inspiration and materials. I came back home with buttons, Elmer's Painters, and Elmer's CraftBond Ultra Stix glue. I laid my materials out on a piece of newspaper along with the pot.

Next I primed my Elmer's Painter by holding the tip down until the paint came out.

Here's what the Painter will look like when it's ready to be used.

Next I glued the buttons unto the pot with the Elmer's Ultra Stix. I drew some connecting lines between the buttons with my Painter.

I continued the process around the top of the pot and I glued a solid line of buttons unto the bottom of the pot. I also added some extra color unto the pot with my Painter.

On a whim I thought I would use some of my scrapbooking letters to add a beautiful word to my project.

The upcycled pot fits in really well with my milk glass.

It's amazing what a little glue and some buttons can do for an ugly pot!

This project has been compensated as part of a social shopper insights study for Elmer's #gluenglitter #collectivebias. My pot was ugly, the idea to upcycle it was all my own, and all the work was done by me.

  1. I never would have thought to add buttons...I love buttons! When my grandmother died I inherited a huge bag of her buttons...when a dress or shirt would wear out, she always clipped off the buttons and saved them! I have them in a tin for my kids and grand kids to play with!
