When I was preggers last year hubs and I went to TGIFridays to eat. It didn't sit well. I ordered what sounded yummy only to have a plate of steaming fried grease arrive. It tainted my view of Fridays as it was my first experience there.
The other week for our anniversary hubs suggested we give it a go again. Perhaps it was the pregger hormones or the fact that I ordered something icky that tainted my view of a place that he apparently liked. We took the plunge and I was very pleasantly surprised.
I ordered one of those get appetizer, entree, and dessert for 12 bucks things. The entree and the dessert were fine but that appetizer was heavenly! Pot stickers, OH MY GOSH! Last week I broke our no more eating out rule because I simply had to have more pot stickers. Then I realized this was not good. I needed to have another way to feed the need for pot stickers. I searched the great and mighty interwebs for recipes for my new addiction. I found one and assembled my ingredients. Last night was the night. I pulled out everything and then I thought well I better check the date on those egg roll wraps I've had them for a bit. They expired on December 11th 2010...
Disaster had struck. I got all upset and hubs ended up making us frozen pizza instead. Granted I had a super hard afternoon with Little Bit. He had cried for an hour and refused to take an afternoon nap. I also had developed a raging headache and earache in that time and really wanted to lay down. Le sigh, have you ever entered a state of depression over a fubared dinner? My cooking expeditions have been on the side of fail lately. I go through spells it seems. This is certainly a low time. Do you have any good simple recipes that I cant mess up? Hope your cooking adventures are going more smoothly than mine :D
LOL. I've never had a potsticker in my life. Gotta say I'm not really sure what it is. Is there no way to make them without eggroll wraps? We love homemade eggrolls here btw. B/c I can bake them. That I know how to do!
ReplyDeleteGood Luck with your kitchen antics!
Potstickers are essentially steamed dumplings that have been put on the griddle for a few minutes. They are addictive. I went so far as to make hubs take me to the icky Chinese place last night so I could get some steamed dumplings. I have to learn to make these things before we go broke, lol!
ReplyDeleteI honestly am the worlds worst cook. My husband says that I burn water...so, yes, I have had many of dinnertime blunders and have been frustrated. fyi: you are making me crave potstickers. I've learned my lesson, though + won't attempt to make them myself.
ReplyDeleteI need to learn my lesson. Poor hubs has eaten so many burned things that he now thinks burned is a food category. Good thing he likes cereal and peanut butter sandwiches ;D
ReplyDeleteOh I hate it when I buy something, forget about it and then when I want to cook with it, it's gone bad!!
ReplyDeleteIt's so frustrating. I always have the best intentions to fix it right away but then the reality of having a one year old sets in and those super duper looooong recipes never get fixed.
ReplyDeleteThanks for coming by my blog. I have to tell ya, our little dog is named "Little Bit" to funny huh?! Anyway I love pot stickers, bought or homemade.
ReplyDeleteDon't let the cooking problems get you down. I definitely was there when we first got married. I started out with recipes from Mr. Food. You might also try slow cooker recipes (the Fix-It and Forget-It series is good). Hang in there! And thanks for coming to my blog. Following you back!

Marjory that is too funny that your dog is named Little Bit . Glad I found your blog! I cant wait to read more :D
ReplyDeleteThankful Heart the very sad thing is that I have been married for ten years and cooking since then. Sadly it has gotten better, but perhaps still not completely edible ;D
ReplyDeleteHi! Here comes the longest comment ever...
ReplyDeleteCan you hear my stomach rumbling? I'm right there with you on the potsticker love. I have nothing for dinner in the house (and nothing to wear incidentally) and was already thinking about ordering takeout. Now I'm torn between TGIF (I love that $12 deal) and our local Thai place. BTW, I've noticed that steamed dumplings are better at any of the Thai places we've tried, compared to any from Chinese restaurants.
Once I get a taste for the potstickers/dumplings it takes me a couple weeks to get over them. Can't get enough of them. I tend to eat things in phases anyway...crazy for Mexican food for a week or two...then I only have eyes cheeseburgers...followed by cake, cake, cake. Hmm too bad it's never for salads.
Please let me know how your dumplings turn out if you do give them a try. We try to eat out less but then we get sick of the few things I can make. Wish I had some meal ideas to share with you. Cooking is an event for me (aka I'm not so good at it AND I hate doing dishes) so I don't do it often enough. Oh wait, I did make up an easy knockoff of Thai Pineapple Chicken Fried Rice that you through together in one pan. It uses a microwavable Uncle Ben's rice pouch...I'll share that on my blog soon.

P.S. I'm a new follower. Thanks so much for visiting me! Oh and Little Bit is absolutely adorable. :)
Do you have a recipe to share for these amazing delights?
ReplyDeleteGatsby Girl I found a few recipes on All Recipes. I usually have great luck with all their recipes. Honestly I still haven't tried to make them from scratch. I found some frozen ones by Tai Pai that were sinfully good and they have the sauce in there. I think I am hooked.
ReplyDeleteAlison,
ReplyDeleteI get on the food cycles as well. Sometimes only sushi will do. Other times I must have soup from Panera. Right now it is pot stickers and we are on the no eating out kick. I found some super yummy ones from Tai Pai that are pretty simply to cook up (and in less than 10 minutes). They are yummy. Give them a whirl if you are in the must have pot stickers NOW phase, lol!
